“Cat leaving a restaurant in the snow”

This illustration inspired by Japanese culture depicts a cat leaving a restaurant in the snow. He’s wearing a rice-straw coat called mino which was widely used in the countryside to protect from rain and snow. In the background, we can see part of the noren (traditional Japanese curtain) of the restaurant on which we see a fish as well as the first characters of the word nezumi (ねずみ) which is japanese for mouse/rat. We can deduce that the restaurant serves fish and is run by a mouse.

🇫🇷 Cette illustration inspirée de la culture japonaise représente un chat quittant un restaurant sous la neige. Il porte un manteau en paille de riz appelé mino qui était très utilisé à la campagne pour se protéger des intempéries. En arrière plan, on aperçoit une partie du noren (rideau traditionnel japonais) du restaurant sur lequel on voit un poisson ainsi que les premiers caractères du mot nezumi (ねずみ) qui signifie souris/rat. On peut donc en déduire que le restaurant sert du poisson et est tenu par une souris.
